Meter Installation, Relocation & Smart Meter Changeovers
Plan metering and supply changes with the electrical and metering responsibilities made clear.
$0 call-out fee · Level 2 ASP · Lifetime Labour Guarantee
What’s included — Meter installation and relocation
A meter change can involve more than exchanging a box. The location needs suitable access and the board, wiring and supply arrangement must support the proposed work. Relocation, a new connection and a smart-meter changeover are different jobs with different coordination requirements. We assess the electrical side and explain what Braytech can complete as a Level 2 ASP. The electricity retailer’s authorised metering provider may need to install or exchange the meter; an ASP accreditation alone does not mean every smart-meter task is ours to perform.
Meter position assessment
Check the proposed location, enclosure, access and available electrical route.
Responsibility planning
Identify the retailer, metering-provider and Level 2 ASP parts of the job.
Electrical preparation
Quote agreed board, cable or consumer mains work needed before the meter appointment.
Authorised supply work
Arrange the safe isolation and connection work within our authorised scope.
Testing and handover
Complete electrical checks and explain the remaining metering steps and documentation.
As a Level 2 ASP, we handle everything from the street to your switchboard, no second contractor for our authorised supply-side electrical scope. That can include preparing the installation, authorised disconnection and reconnection, consumer mains or board changes where agreed. Meter installation and exchanges are coordinated with the responsible authorised metering provider when required. We identify those boundaries before quoting, so you know which appointment concerns electrical preparation and which concerns the meter itself.
Signs you need this — Meter installation and relocation
- A renovation requires your meter position to move.
- A smart-meter appointment has been delayed by an electrical defect.
- The meter enclosure is damaged or access is obstructed.
- You are changing the supply and need metering arrangements coordinated.
- Your retailer has requested electrical preparation before a changeover.
Renovations can leave a meter behind a new fence, in a cramped enclosure or in a location that no longer works for access. Ageing boards or wiring defects may prevent a planned changeover from proceeding. Solar, electrification or a supply change can also trigger metering discussions. Moving a meter to a visually convenient place is not enough: the location has to meet applicable access and installation requirements. We assess feasibility before building work locks in an unsuitable position.
Upfront pricing for meter installation and relocation
Upfront pricing — quoted on site before any work starts.
Your quote reflects access, the existing installation, equipment and any necessary supply coordination. We explain the agreed scope before you decide. Optional work is discussed separately.
What happens on the day
We review the proposed position, retailer or metering-provider instructions and any network conditions. Once the scope and appointments are coordinated, we complete the agreed electrical preparation and authorised supply work, test it and provide the relevant documentation. A power interruption may be needed. The meter provider completes the metering tasks within its responsibility. Have your electricity account and contact details available when coordinating appointments; we do not guarantee a particular retailer turnaround or tariff change as part of an electrical installation.

Meter installation and relocation — frequently asked questions
Can Braytech install every type of smart meter?⌄
No blanket promise is appropriate. Smart-meter installation and exchanges generally involve the retailer’s authorised metering provider. We assess and complete the electrical preparation and authorised supply-side work within our scope, coordinating the metering responsibility where needed. This avoids presenting an ASP licence as authority for every meter exchange.
Can I move a meter inside my garage?⌄
The location needs to satisfy applicable access and installation requirements, and the responsible parties need to accept the arrangement. A garage may introduce locked access or other constraints. We assess the proposed position and explain the requirements before a builder creates an enclosure or completes a wall around an unsuitable location.
Will the electricity be off?⌄
Some preparation, relocation and exchange tasks need an outage. We discuss the expected arrangement once the electrical scope and metering appointment are understood. Different parties may be involved, so we do not promise a fixed duration without coordination. Tell us about essential equipment and access restrictions when arranging the work.
Who should I contact about the meter appointment?⌄
Your electricity retailer is the starting point for its metering-provider process. We can explain the electrical work needed and coordinate our part of the job. Keep the retailer’s instructions and reference details available. Changing tariffs, billing arrangements or provider appointment timing is not something an electrician can unilaterally guarantee.
Why did the meter technician refuse the changeover?⌄
An unsafe board, unsuitable wiring, poor access or another installation issue may prevent the work. Ask for the written reason and share it with us. We assess that specific issue and quote the preparation needed, rather than assuming a full relocation or switchboard replacement is always the answer.
Areas we service for meter installation and relocation
Meter installation and relocation in Sutherland Shire
We provide meter installation and relocation across the Sutherland Shire from our Caringbah base. Brick-veneer and post-war homes can combine original electrical infrastructure with years of additions, so we check the existing arrangement before deciding what the new work needs. Access through a roof space, garage or underfloor area can change the practical scope. Tell us about previous renovations and any inspection findings when booking. We plan the agreed work around the actual property rather than assuming every Shire home has the same wiring or supply.

Meter installation and relocation in St George
Our Caringbah-based team has set service days across St George for meter installation and relocation, with 24/7 emergency cover when an electrical fault needs urgent attention. The area’s brick-veneer and post-war homes may have older boards, limited access or later extensions that need to be considered alongside the requested job. We discuss circuit condition, supply capacity and the route for any new equipment on site. A booking request lets us review access and the proposed scope before confirming a suitable visit; it is not an automatic appointment confirmation.
Hurstville · Kogarah · Bexley · Blakehurst · Carlton · Kingsgrove · Ramsgate
Meter installation and relocation in Eastern Suburbs
We also provide meter installation and relocation on set service days across the Eastern Suburbs, with 24/7 emergency cover. The area’s 1920s–60s housing stock can include overhead mains and original switchboards alongside modern renovations. Those features make a site assessment worthwhile before adding equipment or altering the supply. We check what is present at your property rather than assuming its age means it needs a full replacement. Masonry construction, constrained access and coastal exposure may influence the installation plan, and we explain any necessary preparation before work starts.
